Naija music Industry; New Artists Raising the bar!

Pls Note;I actually wrote this before the Ruben Abati-Banky W issue(crisis lol)

Our music industry has indeed come a long way before now, its not like their were no good music way back,(of course there was ) the likes of Onyeka Onwenu, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, Shina Peters, King Sunny Ade, Oliver De Coque, and many more. They inspired us with their (music) songs.
They touched issues like politics, Religion, Education, National Peace and so on. How can we forget the people’s mouth piece, the poli-entainter, Fela-Anikpolako Kuti, who through his music condemned the ills of the society.
This present generation of musicians has inarguably portrayed the country in a positive limelight. Now people from all over the world know and listen to Naija music. Nigerian artist have several international and local awards, MTV Awards, KORA, World Music Awards etc. The industry is an ever growing and dynamic one, with talented artist springing up on the daily basis. Naija is indeed blessed with unbelievable talents, apart from music too
Before now, our artist don’t usually make International impart, with duo of Keke Ogungbe and Dayo D1 (who I would prefer to be called the Godfathers of the present dynamic naija music industry) came into the scene and turned things around. Then the world started to hear names like 2face, Psquare, Dbanj, Faze, Lagbaja etc, They toured the world with their music and rejuvenated more talented ones like 9ice,Darey, Ikechukwu, Obiwon, Timaya, Naeto C, Sasha, Blaise, Eldee, Banky W, Weird MC, Mode9, etc
This ones came and raised the bar higher and you know what, in the last one year there are a couple of budding artist that have showed traits of raising the bar , more higher than they met it.
Most of them shot up to the beam light with just a single and kept us wondering what the whole package (Album) would be like if the single is a blast.

1. Wande Coal:
Currently released his much awaited album,M2M, with hits like Taboo, Bumper2bumper , He has continued to impress us with his first single –Ololufe ; The Mo-hit’s member had his fans asking for more of his serenading voice.

2. MI
This seasoned and unconventional rapper took the music industry by storm. With the single-Safe, an incorporation of hit naija songs and well delivered, got everyone wondering who he was.
Then the album, -talk about it. Got his name on the lips of every music lover, MI debut album, was highly rated , good production and lyrical content .At the moment, his fans cant get enough of his songs like - anoti, Short black boy, Teazer etc He has shown, his here to stay definitely on the top.

3. Durella ;
This Shayo Cronner ,got us all dancing again, after, releasing his single, everyone wanted to know the person behind this hit song , that enjoyed air plays: winning the MTV base Advanced Warning, increased his popularity.

4. Omawunmi
The sultry singer captured our hearts, in the West African Idol, which was the first runner up, behind Timi Dakolo. The rich vocal and energetic lady, has been on the rise with her single ‘music” which has been hitting airways and making her one of the most sort after female artist at the moment. She was the star artist in the first TGIF of Silver bird Galleria, she was a double award winner at the just concluded Hip Hop Awards, for best female vocal and best upcoming artist. She has been enjoying the glitz that from the TV’s to Radio stations, and magazine. Her album is being awaited, and would soon be released.

5.Kel
Having topped the chart with her single debut- waa wa alrite, in 2008, the sultry rapper, who has stepped up her game, her single earned her two nominations at the Hip Hop Awards and have just released her album, She has established herself as a fast rising talent in Nigeria’s Hip Hop industry. She recently released her much awaited album, Investment, she is on fireee!

6.Shank
The hit track –Julie, got shank all the attention he needed to take his career to another level; with a bohemian’s look that adds to his swagger, he has smooth touch that makes his fans ask for more

7 Nikki Laoye
The rock artist, made a break in with her single ‘Never felt this way before”. The smooth talking artist has gained popularity with a new concept and genre that is new to ever competitive Nigeria music market. Her single gained two nominations at the just concluded HHWA, which also gave a mind blowing performance

OUCH at 3 !!!

UCHE NNAJI,CEO OUCH

Nigeria’s newest style sensation, OUCH Clothing clocked 3 years in the market on the 26th of June, 2009. This milestone was commemorated with a luncheon for selected media representatives in Lagos, as well as an anniversary sale which kicked off on that date.

OUCH Clothing is a stockist of men’s globally recognized fashion and style brands with OUCH Branded suits, blazers, ties and the newest entrant, cufflinks. With its major showroom at a strategic location Maryland, Lagos and a staff strength growing to the double digits, the company has also hUcheas branched out into major projects for corporate customers across board. It was in 2008 selected as the endorsed designers and suppliers of the wildly popular Polos for ‘The Experience’ Concert (said to be the largest gospel musical event in the world), subsequently receiving briefs from corporate organizations to replicate the Polos.

“Sometimes it’s hard to believe how young we are, yet how far we have come,” Uche Nnaji, OUCH’s chief executive said, “In just over three years we have managed to carve out a niche that has won us a strong market share, because our business vision has been consistent. Over the past few months in fact, this has also resulted in a dominant voice share amongst the style brands in the country in terms of the media and public perception and we are proud of that. Of course there are challenges that still have to be overcome, but one can say confidently there is a reason to celebrate.”

At the launch, the brand also presented to the public its brand new image – with a new logo, and a new brand livery, and brand materials that would re-position the OUCH as it prepares to expand the reach of the brand in the coming months.

“Our target has always been making Ouch into an international brand, and this is not just a way of speaking,” Nnaji explained the new brand direction. “We have been working hard over the past few months especially, and we are now poised to merge world class standards with a proudly Nigerian brand, and the attention we pay to detail in terms of our final products as well as our corporate communication reflects this vision.”

OUCH, which was one of the selected style brands at the recent Upfront & Personal Discount Fare held in Victoria Island, Lagos, was this year announced as Style Entrepreneur of the Year (The Future Nigeria Awards), and was selected to, over the past few months, mentor and speak with young people first in Lagos and then other states of the country.
